Fiat Chrysler CEO Believes Self-Driving Cars Will Be On The Road In Five Years

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says his experience working with Google convinced him that self-driving technology could be on the road within the next five years.
According to a report by The Associated Press, he has taken a few test rides in Google’s self-driving car over the past year, and is impressed with the rapid pace at which the technology is advancing. “Each time it got better and better,” said Marchionne. “It isn’t pie in the sky. People are talking about 20 years. I think we will have it in five years.” Marchionne was speaking at Fiat Chrysler’s plant in Windsor, Canada, which is starting to make a new minivan, the Pacifica. Under a recently unveiled partnership, Fiat Chrysler will make approximately 100 modified Pacificas that Google will outfit with sensors and computers it has developed.
